The Process
Firstly, thank you for choosing Affordable Door Refinishing for your door repair and/or refinish needs. We arrive bringing everything needed and explain the process as follows:
1. We set up a work station usually in front in the street or your driveway, (the HOAs are ok with this)
2. We inspect your door, hardware and glass taking note of any existing issues and offer any repair suggestions and upgrades if needed.
3. We proceed to remove the hardware (we will reinstall new matching hardware at no additional charge).
4. We remove your door, hang a plastic temporary door in its place and move it to the station for processing.
5. We use a combination of commercial grade stripper (if needed) and/or hand and power tools to carefully take your door down to bare wood then prep the door for stain.
6. After applying the stain color of your choice we then use marine grade General Finishes 450 Exterior top-coat with added UV protection and fungicide to coat the door to approximately 3-5 mils of thickness. This is accomplished using several coats to apply up to 20 fluid oz. of material per application depending on your door's features.
7. Your door goes back on after the coating is leaving you with a service-ready entry door that will cure fully in about 3 weeks.
8. We then explain the warranty and care of your new door then accept payment upon your satisfaction. *Some doors getting double-sided treatment are allowed to cure on one side at least two weeks before treating the reverse side, most doors can be refinished double-side in a single day.
Maintenance
Protect your investment by staying on top of the maintenance. The sun and weather wears at the finish and if the finish wears away there's nothing protecting your expensive door. Ask about our yearly door maintenance plan. One question we get all the time is "how long will the finish last?". Duration of the finish depends on a few factors such as how much sun exposure the door gets, even the reflection of the sunlight causes wear as does dirt and other things like bird feces. Keeping your door clean with only mild soap and water will help keep dirt wear to a minimum. We recommend our yearly maintenance program to keep your door protected and looking it's best year round, year after year.
